WG3526 with EC25AF on T-Mobile Questions.

Post by collector43 »

Hello, I recently got rid of Mofi4500 and purchased WG3526. Looks like my router has Quectec EC25-AF modem. Im using a T-Mobile sim card. The Firmware has been re-flashed with WiFiX firmware. Speed has been very slow 1Mbps down if that using google speed test. When I had Mofi I was getting about 50 Mbps down and up. Im in a metropolitan area in Los Angeles. I am really new to this but was wondering if there is anything I can do to get better speed with this new setup.

I tried to use custom commands from one of the threads I found (https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=33&start=20)

at!entercnd="A710"
at!band=10,"B2",0,0000000000000002
at!band=11,"B4",0,0000000000000008
at!band=12,"B12",0,0000000000000800
at!band=13,"B66",0,0,0000000000000002
at!band=0A,"T-Mobile (All)",0,000000000000080A,0000000000000002

to see if I can lock the bands, but none of the commands worked.

1. Should I upgrade antennas? If so which ones? or all of them, can you provide a link, please.
2. Should I upgrade the modem? Which one works best with T-Mobile?
3. Is there anything I can do with the current setup to get better speeds?

Thank you for any help.

First, if you in fact have the Quectec EC25-AF modem, then you can't use Sierra commands, you must use Quectel commands.
Generally setting the bands to Auto works just fine, and your low speed could be due to carrier throttling, which has to do with TTL settings (the MoFi sets this automatically). In the router's Advanced Network setting try changing your TTL to 63, 64, and 65, reboot and rest after each change.
Having the latest firmware on both the router and modem is always a good thing.
Don't think your antennas are the problem here.

If you really want to play around with locking bands, then check out this excellent thread over at:

Good luck!

Hey Bill, Thanks! I actually talked with you via Youtube you responded to me couple times. So I'm going to continue here instead of YouTube comments.

I switched TTL to 64 and the speed substantially jumped up.

This is the closest tower to me, link bellow

1. Can I lock it to all 3 bands its broadcasting all at the same time? 2,4,12?
2. When i click on the map on my house it actually goes to B2 from all 9 (signals? on the list) Maybe I should just lock it to 2?
3. How can i check if its in Auto mode now?
4. And lastly Do you know if there Is a guide somewhere on how can i update firmware for this modem module? Can i do it with the command GUI as well?

Hi,
1. You can lock them, but you're just telling the modem to use a specific set of bands. The modem's firmware is programmed in the factory to always seek out the strongest signal automatically (even as it changes throughout a day), and that's just what you want. Keep in mind, that you CANNOT force the modem to do CA even when you specify the bands, that's up to your carrier/tower to request it during large data transfers only. Again, in my opinion leaving allowing all bands on auto-selection is still the the best option. With $100 modems there's only so much bandwidth you can squeeze out of LTE, just wait till 5G modem prices come down to a couple of hundred dollars (currently they are around $600), then you should be able to get around 500Mbps easily.
If you keep messing around, chances are you will end up locking out important bands, then you will need to do a factory reset on the modem via:
AT&F
AT&F1
AT+CFUN=1

2. Not sure what map you're talking about, but if you mean one of those online tower maps, they aren't always accurate. In fact tower coverage can change dynamically as carriers tweak it all the time.

3. Again, I will refer you back to the link I posted earlier, read through it carefully, I've seen a command which will put it back to all band on full auto. Just remember each made/model can have it's own custom command. Usually all Quectel's share the same set. https://forum.gl-inet.com/t/x750-spitz- ... k-to-band/

4. Sorry I've got no information about firmware updates for Quectel's, but you can contact the manufacturer to get some more info. Register at https://www.quectel.com/support/download.htm
Instructions: https://www.quectel.com/UploadImage/Dow ... e_V1.1.pdf
By the way, you will need an external modem to USB adapter/housing in order to connect it to the pc and upgrade the firmware (cannot be done while inside the router).
