Help! Can't connect: EM7511 in NGFF to USB enclosure with Tmobile SIM and a Linksys WRT32X router

Post by Jespa97 »

(edited to add attachments)
My first attempt at a cellular network build and I'm stuck. I can't get a connection after running through several tutorials/troubleshooter posts.

Here's what I've done so far:
1. Flashed GoldenOrb_2019-11-25 Found here on my Linksys WRT32X Router.
2. Unboxed my USB3.0 to NGFF m.2 Key B adapter enclosure, installed the Sierra EM7511 Modem (FW installed), connected the pigtails to the main and aux ports, then attached two 4G LTE omni-dir attennas. Plugged this into the USB 3.0 port on my router. (Maybe I need an additional power source besides the USB cord?) Install Instructions derived from this tutorial.
3. installed Sierra Wireless Driver onto my Windows 10 laptop (Jul 06, 2018 - Author: Sierra Wireless - Version 4836)
4. Tested my Tmobile sim card in an ipad to be sure sim card works fine...it did.
5. Configured GoldenOrb router per Jim's tutorials bottom third of the page "STEP THREE" for the Sierra wireless cards (i.e. with tmobile's apn: fast.t-mobile.com, ttl 64, and the other minor configuration settings)
6. Did a hard reboot of the router, installed the sim card, and the modem is definitely trying to connect. It will recognize my sim card with the correct phone number, IMEI, etc, but can't stay connected for more than a few seconds. I'm stuck at this point. Still very new to all the terminology, but learning fast. Thanks in advance for help. Here are a few screenshots of what's going on.

EDITED 2/27/2020: This modem needed more power, so added a micro usb cable to the optional power port on my enclosure which solved the connection problem. Internet is up and running...next step is optimizing my speeds/signal.

Your PDF files did not attach.

Once your modem is connected, run the command

Code: Select all

AT!GSTATUS?
And post the results. Run it a second time after it disconnects.

Woohoo! I'm online!

I decided to add extra power to the optional micro USB power port to see if insufficient power was causing the problem and that solved the connection issue!! Now I get:

Great. Yes, lack of sufficient power can and will cause issues.
