3. Copy and replace /lib/netifd/proto/mbim.sh with the one from the zip
check permissionss, must be executable
4. Copy luci-proto-mbim_1.0-1_mipsel_24kc.ipk to the router

I was wondering, what is the purpose and function of this "luci-proto-mbim" add-on?

I realise that this is a late answer.
The pupose is to have MBIM show up in the proto list when creating a new network interface.

Better later than never he-he.... What's is the purpose for the Luci-Proto in network interfaces, and isn't it already included in latest firmwares?
