WE826-T2 SIM Not Detecting

Post by Blizzrdball »

Hello!

I'm currently in the process of trying to put together a WE826-T2 router with a Sierra MC7455 purchased from this website. I'm using this device with a Calyx plan in which I have done a device swap over to a new SIM card with the 7455's IMEI/MEID numbers.

I've been following the build guide for this modem and have plugged in the U.FL connectors to the MC7455, flashed GoldenOrb_2019-03-10, set the APN to r.ispsn, synced the time on the router, and set the TTL. After this I rebooted the router as normal.

Once the router came back up, I gave it a few minutes but the device still does not even seem to attempt to connect to the internet. The Internet indicator on the router does not light up at any point. After rebooting the router, I get the following logs from debug information:

Additionally under the connection log window, I will repeatedly receive this error as well:

Code: Select all

Attempting to Connect Modem #1 (Sierra_Wireless,_Incorporated Sierra_Wireless_MC7455_Qualcomm®_Snapdragon™_X7_LTE-A)
Is there anybody who would be able to help me out with this? I'm currently under a time crunch as this needs to be set up and sent out for a work client.

Thank you for your time reading!

You mention setting the APN to "r.ispsn", but the debug window is showing "n.ispsn".

It also appears your SIM Card is not being read properly. This is discussed in the troubleshooting connection guide.

Hello Jim,

I've gone through the troubleshooting connection guide a few times over however have still been having issues connecting as the router still is not detecting the SIM card; correct with your hypothesis.

I unfortunately have not been able to update the firmware on the MC7455 due to not having the correct equipment; I've attempted to connect the modem to a laptop through the internal Mini PCI-E slot, however Windows does not appear to recognize the modem in this way, despite detecting others without issue. If it makes more sense to do this through a Linux installation with the available scripts, I can do that.

That said however, the modem does indeed register within the router when I attempt to gather information on it, but the SIM still fails to detect. I should also mention that I have used multiple SIM cards in this situation as well; one from the original wireless hotspot with the Nano SIM adapter, and another sim that was purchased and assigned directly to this device's IMEI address; I receive the same "+CME ERROR: SIM not inserted" message regardless.

Would the firmware in this situation make a difference in whether or not the SIM card is able to be read? If so, please let me know and I can try to flash the Sprint firmware again. Otherwise I'm not entirely where to move forward,

What type of SIM Card Adapter are you using? Adapters give a lot of issues.

It must be able to read the SIM Card to establish a connection.

I would clean the SIM card metal contacts good, make sure the tits/tabs are completely removed, and the Card fits perfectly into the adapter. I would then place a strip of scotch tape on the back side of the SIM card adapter (opposite of the metal contacts), and trim the excess on the edges with a razor blade.

I've used 4 different SIMs and still get this error. At this point can I get my money back? It simply doesn't read SIM cards.

I successfully detect a SIM card on WE826-T. The SIM card is old Micro SIM attached in Standard size SIM. On the other hand, when a nano SIM card is attached in Standard size SIM, it is not detected. The difference between nano and micro is their connecting pad length. I believe SIM card reader of WE826-T is not capable a nano SIM card.
Does anyone know where I buy standard or micro SIM card for t-mobile?

I use nano SIMs exclusively, they work fine in my 826's. It may be an issue with the adapter.

If you want the full size card, called "Mini-SIM", you may have to call T-mobile for one. They usually send them out in a all in one "breakout" style SIM though.

@Didneywhorl, Thank you for the info. I returned the WE826-T and ordered another. I'll test with a nano on Standard adapter when it arrives.

The 2nd we826t arrived. It does not detect a nano Sim on Standard adapter, i.e. 1st and 2nd we826t are same in terms of Sim detection.
I'll return the 2nd too.
Thank you anyway.
