How are poeple powering permantely tethered phones to routers ?

The Power coming off a router's USB 3 or 2 interface is not going to keep a phone charged. You also have an issue where there is only one port on the phone that gets power and data. So how are people accomplishing this setup? externally powered hub such that the hub is bettween the router and the phone? Any guidance would be helpful.
