Em160r-gl antenna help

I bought a wg1608 with a em160r-gl modem. I went with the 160 over the em-12 because the higher ca ability and the 4x4 mimo ability.
Is it possible to do a 2x2 directional setup and 2 Omni directional antennas?
How does 4x4 mimo work on 4g? Can I buy 4 directional antennas and stagger them in a mimo pattern?
