Did I kill my MC7455?

Picked up a used 'Outdoorrouter' (EZR30) with an EM7455 installed and working with my T-Mobile SIM.
As I couldn't find any way to send AT-commands to the modem thru the (OpenWRT-based) OutdoorRooter web UI, I placed it into a USB adapter to connect it my Windows PC to update firmware and other 'magic', but it only appeared as a USB storage device - no COM ports. Now my Rooter'd RBM33g doesn't see it at all and back in the EZR30, it no longer works either.
Turns out my adapter was not correct for a USB modem (one of these: https://amzn.to/3H80g8E ) It's intended for mSATA storage card only, (no SIM slot should have clued me in, but i figured I didn't need the SIM for what i wanted to do...)
I can't tell if this improper connection has killed/damaged it, or maybe it can be recovered somehow for use via USB (for eventual Rooter install on the EZR30).
