EM12G in ZBT-1608 : GoldenOrb_2021-08-15 ( OpenWrt 21.02.0-rc3 )

Hi All,

I've had good success for the last year with an EM12G on a Verizon post paid plan. Can a modem just "ninja brick" where it reports correct parameters, but is never going to work?

I hope I'm missing something obvious. I try to be through and scientific, but I'm far from a subject expert.


Recently the modem lost connection and I have not been able to get it back online.

Put the SIM back in my cell phone and it links up just fine. Do a WiFi hotspot with the phone and the router works (bandwidth is reduced significantly because of signal strength).
I have been troubleshooting for a few weeks now and I'm honestly stumped. Here is the list of my current parameters.

Today I reset the modem to factory which i have read is to be used as a last resort. I entered all the following commands through a NGFF (M.2) to USB adapter with SIM slot in my PC using putty and the AT com port. Then confirmed the parameter once the modem went back into the router's M.2 slot using the GoldenOrb AT command terminal.

Cleared the memory:

I did a factory reset the 1608, and tried different firmware releases: ZBT-WG1608-GO2021-10-05, ZBT-WG1608-GO2021-08-15 as it is the current full release version.

Could I have missed a setting in the Router?

on the interface tab, i get

Ok, welp going to come clean here.

I had the wifi SMA female antennae plugged into the SMA female connectors coming from the modem....

Not a super good connection going F to F


Used the SMA Male antennae and miraculously was able to get a signal.

I'm going to go crawl back under my rock and hide my shame.

LOL, not sure exactly what you are trying to say but would assume it has something to do with the fact that regular wifi uses "RP-SMA" and the modem uses "SMA". I bet this has bit many people in the ass in the past. In no way whatsoever should they have made different types of connectors that fit together like normal. They should have made them slightly different in some way so they can't mistakenly be used together. The only way to tell is to look and see if one end has a "pin" that will fit into the other end with the "hole". I have to look it up every time I have to actually know which style is which.

Hey, at least you got it figured out and probably learned quite a bit along the way!
