NEXP1GO + telit help!

Post by AnotherRemoteWorker »

Just got in a new NEXP1GO router and telit modem. I am having trouble getting connected to the internet even though the modem looks like it successfully connected to the tower.

The 3g/4g light is on. Under modem > network status the sim/modem info and cell info fields are populated. It's connected on B2 right now. And under debug info all the AT commands look good. I see in the sys logs that the status was set as "connected". I was even able to get my SMS messages. But when I connect to wifi or a lan port, I can't get any internet.

I've tried with two sims - one is an elite phone plan and the other is a tablet plan. Both appear to connect, but no internet.

I've been using a Mofi 4500 for the last three years, but I am new to these custom built rigs so please pardon my ignorance if I am missing something obvious. Let me know if additional info is needed and thanks in advance for help!

Thanks, Ill give that a shot.

Is it weird that it briefly had a connection over what I think was 3g? It didnt say the band under cell info, but I was getting about 5mbps down. Then that stopped without changing anything. I have it set to 4g only so I am not sure what that was about.

I just reflashed 3 times. Same problem.

I'm running out of ideas. It looks like I should have internet. All the AT commands look good.

Is it just something about the network that's misconfigured? Seems unlikely but I'm out of my depth. Am I understanding this right - WAN1 (wwan0) connects to the tower and LAN (br-lan) is the local network whose gateway is WAN1? So if wwan0 has an IP address, that means it is connected to the internet, right? My wwan0 does have an IP and it's protocol is set to DHCP client.

It works on 3G but not 4G...

Dumb question, but could I have messed up connecting the antenna to the modem? Would that cause this? I think I got the right pins, but Im not 100%.

If your connected to the tower but no internet then its either TTL or it doesn't like your IMEI. Most likely IMEI.

I'm using an ATT tablet plan. From what I gather, TTL doesn't matter for ATT. Might be worth a try anyway. And the modem IMEI is the same as the tablet I registered. I tried a sim that's registered to a different device and it did not connect the way this one does. The strangest part to me is that 3G works...

If your getting 3G but not 4G then maybe your 4G signal is too bad to pickup?

Thanks for the help, Didney. It could very well be that my signal just isn't strong enough. Although the signal I was receiving on B2 was comparable to B14, only 14 worked. I'm currently locked on B14.

Code: Select all

AT#LAPS
#LAPS: -99,-11,-140,-20

OK
The lm960 is is 4x4, so is that RSRP and RSRQ for the first set of main and diversity antennas? Or is " -99,-11" for the first set, and -140,-20 is for the second set? Either way those values seem terrible! And yet I am getting 30mpbs down and 10 up! The RSSI is sometimes as high as -60db.

Code: Select all

AT#RFSTS
#RFSTS: "310 410",5330,-98,-73,-10,9617,255,16,1280,19,2,5DD30CA,"310280023224281","AT&T",3,14

OK
Any tips for improving that signal? Currently the router is just sitting by the window with the stock antennas. I have two yagis that I used with my mofi. Should I hook those up? It wouldn't be 4x4 but would it help if I hooked those up the first set of antennas? I may just pick up a 4x4 antenna from The Wireless Haven. I am curious to see what kinds of speeds I can get with a better signal since I'm already getting better speeds than I got with the mofi.

Any advice for selecting a band? Is there a better way to scan than to lock bands one by one?

Any advice for setting up carrier aggregation?

Code: Select all

AT#ACTIVEFW?

HOST FIRMWARE : 32.00.006_3
SLOT STATUS CARRIER VERSION TMCFG CNV
1 Activated Generic 32.00.116 1026 32101006

OK
I've tried to set the profile to ATT with `AT#ACTIVEFW=1,3`, `AT#ACTIVEFW=3` and `AT#ACTIVEFW=2,ATT` but I I just get errors.

Thanks again, all advice is appreciated!

Code: Select all

#LAPS: <rsrp_0>,<rsrq_0>,<rsrp_1>,<rsrq_1>[,<rsrp_2>,<rsrq_2>,<rsrp_3>,<rsrq_3>
The above would indicate the first 2 numbers represent your power and quality of your PCC main LTE band and the second 2 numbers indicate your SCC band which shows no signal basically (-140). These LTE devices usually run off of battery so they like to run in 'idle' mode until needed so you might not see any MIMO information unless you grab your signal stats during an upload/download event.

Your yagi's will probably help tremendously. It would still be 4x4 it would just use the 2 yagi's and 2 stock. IMO, I'd go with individual antennas from The Wireless Haven rather than an all-in-1 antenna. LTE bands typically range from 600-2500 and a single 4x4 antenna may cover that range but it can not get as much gain as 4 individual antennas would that are designed to cover a specific frequency range. That been my experience anyway.

Are far as locking, I'd try my best to avoid it. I've had better luck picking the right antennas that cover a specific frequency range to lock to a certain band rather than locking it down via AT commands. IMO best case scenario you find out exactly what bands you have available and what bands your PCC and SCC will be from cellmapper site and then find individual antennas to lock to those frequencies so you can have the highest gain possible for each band. A lot of trial and error and playing around will get you to your maximum speeds.

Side note, If you haven't checked already. I noticed all of my email notifications were turned off in my board preferences. So I wasn't getting notified of when people were responding to posts or tagging me.

Make sure yours are set to notify you how you like. I like to be emailed.

Thanks Didney and mtl26637! Sorry for the slow response- busy few days.

Didney, thanks for the link to the updated AT command docs. I was looking at some outdated ones that didn't even have AT#FIRMWARE. I tried to set the profile that way, but it didn't work either. I'm also just seeing AT#GETFWEXT and #ACTIVEFWEXT for the first time. #GETFWEXT returns "Generic",2 where the "2" is the carrier firmware selection mode, "One shot automatic firmware selected by SIM". Looks like I can use ACTIVEFWEX=2,"ATT" but that also gave me an error. I'll have to play with it more when I have time.

mtl26637, thanks for the advice on the antennas. I'll hook up the two yagis I have and see if my signal improves. And if I get two more, Ill try to get some that cover only the specific band I want.
