WE826 Checksum Failed

Post by Ozark »

After numerous attempts to reset a WE826-T2 (32M) - EC25-AF back to it's original GoldenOrb firmware for a fresh start, I gave up and had a brainiac idea to flash the firmware to solve the issue.
It took quite a few resets but was finally able to get it into recovery mode but whenever I try to flash the file the response is Checksum failed!

I've done a lot of searching on the forum and have tried different PC settings and so far it's still Checksum Failed!

Can some please help a rookie out?

Are you sure you arent supposed to be using a 16MB image instead of 32M?

I believe it came shipped with the 32 version but I've tried both images for 16 and 32 with the same response of Checksum Failed.

Honestly I've never seen a checksum check on the firmware recovery. Is this an old MOFI?

It's a stock WE826-T2 that was up and running with GoldenOrb. Being a rookie I played with a lot of the settings trying to improve it's performance and for the learning experience. When I tried to reset it back to the original firmware nothing seemed to remove my tinkering so I finally decided to just flash a fresh image and that's where I'm now stuck with Checksum Failed.

Would there be any harm in trying to flash WIFIX NEXQ6GO or OpenWRT instead?

Yes, I flashed WE826 v2 with vanilla OpenWRT and ROOter without any problems. Always wanted to try WiFiX but it seems this firmware should not be installed on a non The Wireless Haven hardware due to legal reasons.

@Ozark
you marked out the mac-id and the imei in your photo, but you left the barcodes, kind of defeats the purpose of marking them out don't you think. :)

Not really sure what I was doing wrong earlier but a fresh reset on the router and flashing a fresh download of openwrt the device finally came to life.

The initial issue is that you are trying to upload a .zip file.

You will need to extract it and upload the .bin file that is compressed within the .zip file.

That's exactly what the issue was Jim and after setting it aside for a couple of days I finally got it right.
