Prepaid plan connection drops after 4 hours

Post by Turbinezz »

Hi,

I have a WE826-Q with a Quectel EM12-G, running GoldenOrb_2021.

When using a prepaid plan/sim, my internet connection seems to drop right at 4 hours of uptime. Rebooting the router/modem restores connection.

I have prepaid plans/sims for two different local service providers. These are Docomo Pacific and IT&E out here in the Guam area.
I also have a regular postpaid plan/sim for IT&E.

When I am using the regular postpaid sim, the connection is great and never drops.

When I use either of the postpaid sims, the connection is great until 4 hours of uptime. Then the connection monitor shows DOWN and I have no internet, despite still showing proper provider, signal...etc.

This is despite the signal strength being over 85%.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

You may want to try and setup a background low data stream running on a browser that runs all the time.

BillA has posted a link to a web based stock ticker that uses low data but is technically streaming all the time. This may keep your connection from being marked as stale and getting shut off. That is a common thing here in the mainland states via ATT. If your connection is linked but not active enough, then ATT somehow marks it as dead and stops allowing traffic over some, if not all, ports. effectively killing your connection until you reset it.

You can also use the goldenorb interface and simply disconnect/reconnect the modem via resetting the USB1 port. I think that set of buttons is in the modem menu->Miscellaneous

Thanks for the response.

This loss of internet occurs even while streaming netflix, hulu or amazon music, so I dont think the connection is going stale and being dropped.

I changed Connection Monitoring to "Enabled with Modem Reconnect".
This helps but the periodic internet drops are still a nuisance.

Try to use the dmesg tool so you can get a more complete log, if you need it, somewhere on this forum I posted a simple dmesg tool you can use if you need it.
But you can see below why it disconnects, it is getting a cmd to do so via sms from what that log looks like.
carriers do this to save money on data.
AT+cfun=4 (Mobile transmitter and Mobile receiver switchoff) – Airplane mode is switched on
When this command (at+cfun=1,1) is executed on device, it is suppose to cause a reboot

This right here is highlighting the issue.

Your ping test is no longer coming back and the connection monitor is rebooting the modem.

Have you disabled the conneciton monitor to see if your connection dies off?

For some reason ICMP requests stop working.

You can try the new WiFiX firmware for better connection monitor and ping tests: https://thewirelesshaven.com/nexq6go-firmware
