EM12 Keeps disconnecting from Router every hour

Post by livewyre570 »

Hey guys, i have a Quectel EM12 in a WiFix WG3526 from The Wireless Haven, bought used. I have the latest firmware flashed to it. The problem i am having is that about once every hour i get disconnected and the Router reports Modem not found. Upon reboot it goes back to normal, but only for about that 1 hour period. This starting happening about 2 weeks ago. First it happened about once per day, then gradually increase to the once per hour. ATT is the carrier. i have tried multiple sims (my work SIM and the iPad plan SIM) and ttl settings as well. Could my Modem be bad?

Replace the power supply with a quality upgraded supply before going to failures.

Ok, so went from POE splitter to the original power adapter shipped with the unit. same thing. I'm now testing it with a power adaptor from an old Lenovo Laptop. specs are 12V 4A. It's powered on and connected to internet again. Let's see how it holds up. If this fails, would you say it's the modem?

Cant say for sure. If it does fail, again. I would look through the system log for errors. look for the modem logs where it loads again and again.

Status-->System Log

you can also make this log persist from reboots by setting the log path in system settings. But your router isnt rebooting, so you should be fine there.

I'll get the system log too. It only goes out for a second, then the modem comes back and is recognized by the router again. (I have 2 of the same router btw. one POE and one non-POE). The modem does the same thing in both routers.

So after reading some other posts about the EM12, should i be running it in MBIM or QMI?

Swapped out more power adapters and still doing the same thing. I guess at this point it's the modem?

Try MBIM mode

Code: Select all

AT+QCFG="usbnet",2

Code: Select all

AT+CFUN=1,1
...but something tells me your modem is tripping out.

Your logs show that it is in fact disappearing completely for a short time. I've seen EM20's do this a lot. Not something I've seen in the EM12.

You could also try flashing the latest firmware and see if that covers up some kind of irregularity. Prob not though.

Not trying to derail but curious as mine does this too. Do you have any more information as to why or how to resolve phantom EM20's from disappearing? If it more than a quick response I can move to new thread, but being they both Quectel I guess it may be same exact issue/problem?

I haven't. It tends to either go away with a modem firmware flash, or it wont go away. I've not had much luck there. Make sure you have ample power for it, maybe try it in another device to ensure its not the router/adapter.
