T-Mobile $50 for 100GB HotSpot

Post by R1250GSA »

https://www.t-mobile.com/news/network/5 ... got-better

They are also selling a 5G HotSpot with WiFi6:

Inseego MiFi M2000 with a Qualcomm SDX55
5G: n2, n41, n66, n71;
LTE: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 14, 17, 25, 26, 28, 29, 30, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42, 46, 48, 49, 66, 71

It has a USB-C port for tethering but does not appear to have any external antenna ports

Outside the novelty of 5G, that doesn't seem like that great of a deal. How long would it take to whizz through 100GB at 5G speeds?

Well I am not a data plan expert, but it sounds more generous than most.
(assuming unlimited is off the table)

As for 5G,
It appears T-Mobile is not focusing on the mmWave but the mid-band.
Which is good since the mmWave travels like a foot before petering out.
(no offense to any named Peter)
It is also interesting that only a handful of bands are getting the NR, new radio 5G.
and interesting again that these are the some of the most popular LTE bands.
So my outstanding question is what type of tower base station technology each of the wireless carriers will leverage. Will it be a fancy realtime allocation between 4G and 5G or a fixed allocation that gets dialed down over time?
This maybe how the novelty meets the road.

I have both this plan and the hotspot. For some reason it doesn’t get the same signal as my Tmobile iPhone 11 Pro Max. Not even looking for 5G honestly, but I expected the same level of service as my phone.

Apple pays top dollar for top of the line Qualcomm modems. You won't get any modem as good as what's in the iPhone. Fortunately good antennas really make up the difference and then some. You should focus on getting the best antennas for your budget and towers.
