Custom Firmware IBR900

Post by BigBoomer »

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I am still looking around and searching but trying to figure out if the IBR900 can be flashed with custom/opensource firmware? I understand their firmware support is now on a subscription model and 7.x.x I think is the last version that was still free to use without subscription. But I am trying to decide on assembling my own lte router or buying one. Really want to play with LTE Pro Max features, 4 x 4 mimo with 7 band carrier aggregation, etc. but to make the most use of this I need a router base that is faster than 100mbps lan and in truth I need one that supports faster than 300mbps over wifi... Seems like a lot of the more affordable routers like NEXQ6GO are limited to these caps. Any recommendations on a faster LTE base router to build on that is supported with custom firmware or can an ibr900 be loaded with custom firmware?

Thanks for any sugestions.

I don't think the Cradlepoint routers can be flashed to other firmware versions, but I don't know that for sure.

Recommendation: WG3526P router with a USB3 to M.2 adapter enclosure housing a Quectel EM160 modem connected to the front USB port of the router. All day long.

@Didneywhori

Does the WG3526P support two m.2 modems? I would have guessed no given it has only one PCIe slot with which a PCIe to m.2 adapter is needed. However you mentioned connecting the em160 to the front usb via a m.2 adapter enclosure. Also any recommendations on said enclosure?

I am considering an EM20-G, understanding its end of life I just thought that 4xMIMO might serve me better than 3xMIMO. Any thoughts here?

Thank you!

P.S. Reason for two modems will be to experiment with true carrier aggregation (NOT load balancing)

Adapter I use: https://thewirelesshaven.com/shop/pcie-m-2/m-2-ng ... card-slot/

Correct. One inside the router via: https://thewirelesshaven.com/shop/pcie-m-2/mini-p ... card-slot/

One hooked to the front USB port via the first linked adapter above.
