Does the https://thewirelesshaven.com/product-category/ant ... -antennas/ that the store sells, will they be able to pick up 5G signal or just 4g lte?

Is this better as the gains are higher? https://www.ebay.com/itm/353190575002 or is the The Wireless Haven one better?

Short answer, yes.

"5G" signals is a term that needs clarifying.

There are no antennas on the market that are true "5G" mmWave. Those signals are over 26Ghz and 38Ghz. the 5G that most people are using are actually just 4G signal frequencies. you may need a special modem or SIM to use the "5GNR" variants of these bands, but the antennas are exactly the same.

That ebay antenna you mention on the next comment is a cheap LPDA antenna and doesn't list its gain. It wont even get close to the ones The Wireless Haven sells. You'll get what you pay for on that.

Actually it does list the gain... 20-25dbi if you were to believe the description... DO NOT BELIEVE THE DESCRIPTION. There's not an lpda on the market with anywhere near that much gain. Most are 9-11dbi.

Yup that's what I thought they usually post high gains at ebay to make the product sound better

Ok so do these antennas have the capability to bring in 5g band into a 5g router?

Short answer: Any antenna can be capable of 5G use, with the matching frequencies.


5GNR bands are the same frequencies as 4G LTE bands. The antenna is made for frequencies, and are protocol and acces agnostic. As long as the frequencies match, they will work.

The modem is what determines the ability to access and use the 5GNR or 5G mmWave bands, along with a SIM card that is provisioned to the carrier and plan that has access to use "5G" services. I think ATT is the only one that has started to have different SIMs for "5G"

Routers are also 5G/4G/3G/etc agnostic. The router simply has to have the physical port to accept the modem and the drivers to run the modem.

I have another question pertaining to antenna. My 1608 came with a GPS antenna do I have to plug that in? I'm currently using an em20 while I shop for a 5g router

I tape the pigtail for that antenna to the case cover. I never use the GNSS/GPS ports. I also swap the super short pigtail to the GPS hole, then tape it up

So I don't need to hook it up at all good to know . Also why would I ever use a GPS antenna on a router so service provider can track me?

Emergency service workers, or OTR truckers, etc etc. Some people make some cool features with gps functionality.
