WE3926 - Building a MC7455 CAT6 LTE Router

Post by JimHelms »

This tutorial will show how to disassemble and install a Sierra Wireless MC7455 in the WE3926 LTE Router.

The WE3926 uses the same PCB (router board) as the WE826-T (refer to the image below). Therefore, the WE826 firmware is compatible with the WE3926.

The router is a bit tricky to disassemble if you do not see where the tabs and notches are that secure the two cases together. A small flat head screwdriver can be inserted between the cases and gently spread apart until the tabs are released from the slots. Its best to work them free one at a time.

Notice the WE3926's PCB is marked as a WE826.

Gently pry the PCB up from its case while making sure it clears the USB connector.

It is easier to assemble the modem if the unit is placed with the PCB on the table side.

Insert the two screws from the bottom of the PCB and up through the two white spacers. Notice that two of the spacers slide freely over the screws (to use as spacers between the modem and the PCB), while the other two spacers have threads which will be used as nuts to secure the modem to the PCB.

Once the screws and spacers are in place, slide the modem into the mini PCI-e slot until it will lower over the screws.

Use the nut styled spacers to hold the modem in place.

Install the U.FL connectors over the Main and Aux antenna port connectors on the modem. Make sure they are lined up perfect and gently push down on the connector until it snaps into place. DO NOT force the connector. If it does not want to snap into place, the chances are you are misaligned. Both the U.FL and antenna port connector are easy to damage if they are misaligned and forced into place.

This is where a magnifying glass works well to assure the connectors are properly aligned--at least for those of us whose vision is less than optimal.

Snap the cases back together and you are done. To upgrade the firmware, follow this TUTORIAL
