WE826 & WE1026

Post by Greenday1 »

The The Wireless Haven store is listing the WE826 & WE1026 in stock. I know they aren't quite the same thing but if you had to pick between them does one seem to be a better option for me to go with? Of the two I'm leaning toward the WE1026 having both 2.4 & 5.8. I don't have to have LAN ports to connect any of my devices and will have to setup a rig to mount the antennas to.

If the WE826 is a better choice do I need to consider anything above the MC7455 modem? Or if I can in fact get more out of the WE1026 I'll need some help with the verifying the modem and best connections.

Thanks

Here are the major differences between the WE826 and WG3526:
1. The WE826 comes with 2G WiFi only which is known to be pretty weak/flaky, therefore you may optionally disable its internal WiFi and feed one of the LAN ports into another router or access point's WAN port for better WiFi including 5G.
2. The internal and external USB bus of the WE826 is only 2.0 (the WG3526 has USB3.0), which could be a limiting factor with some higher/faster CAT# modems.
3. The WE826 comes with LAN ports up to 100Mbps, while the WG3526 has 1,000Mbps ports, therefore using a modem higher/faster than CAT6 is possible.
The bottom line is that the WG3526 has higher specs, more stable, and upgradable with higher/faster CAT# modems.

I did her back from Jim and he said the WG3526 won't be back anytime soon so that won't be an option for me. So the WE826 & WE1026 are the only two to really pick from unless you know of somewhere else I can look..

I have identified a NETGEAR Nighthawk M1 I can pickup. Any issues I should be aware of before trying to get this one?

It will not work with carriers which require TTL settings, and it's more difficult to attach external antennas.
Usually cheaper prepaid plans won't work, while more expensive postpaid ones should.
Here's a list of prepaid plans which need TTL settings:

I did find several posts about changing the TTL on the NIghthawk through a command prompt but short of that what about the WE1026 unit as an alternative to the WE826?

Thanks

Yes, the WE1026 basically has the same specs and functionality of the WE826, while it's geared more toward automotive use, it should work just fine for home use too.

With the WG3526 not coming back anytime soon, is there another router that would be recommended for use with a CAT20 modem?

The NEXG H721 is popular, though you have to use the m.2 modules in the underside interface (usb 2.0) unless you want to solder a protection circuit for the upper interface. It seems to be melting cards in the usb3.0 slot. Still gets you up to 490Mbps theoretical speeds.

Unless of course you want to use the Telit LM960, which is an mPCIe form factor, then you can use that in a lot of LTE routers.

Look into Mikrotik and GLinet LTE routers. I have zero experience with it though.

That said, I believe thewirelesshaven.com should have more coming in. If you cant wait, you can order them other places. Send Jim Helms a message, I'm sure he can update you on his stock.

Morning Jim. Not sure why but PM's I send typically seem to get stuck in the Outbox. That last PM I actually sent back at the beginning of April when I was still figuring out what I could order.
