WE-826-T2 IPV6 Disable

Post by JoshKelly »

Hey guys where are the settings to disable IPV6 on this router? I am running an ATT unlimited data tablet plan with my phone service. I think maybe the IPV6 could be reducing my speeds. I am getting 50 down on my phone but only 15 on the router modem setup.

Hardware:
WE-826-T2
Quectel EP06-A
AC68U router connected

Honestly, I've never experienced a speed difference between IPv4/v6 connections.
It mainly affects the DNS server, not the overall data speeds.
Personally I prefer the simple IPv4 over v6 cuz I hate those long ass v6 numbers. lol
Anyway, if you're feeling adventurous, you can try these IPv4 only methods:

If having problems connecting to certain websites using IPv6, on WAN1 uncheck "Use builtin IPv6-management" and "Use DNS servers advertised by peer", then set the primary/secondary DNS server to 1.1.1.1/1.0.0.1 or 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 or 9.9.9.9.9/9.9.9.9.9

@billA thank you so much, I will follow that first tutorial :).

Any idea if att throttles their unlimited tablet access. I have one of their unlimited plus phone plans and I added the unlimited tablet access on top of that plan.

While officially they say it's not throttled, from my experience they seem to do some kind of speed limiting or packet filtering, because I've never seen over 50Mbps (only lower) even with great signal and equipment.
Using Tmobile I usually get around 100Mbps speeds during non-peak hours, which is pretty good for LTE.
Higher speeds will be available once 5G gets fully deployed all over AND 5G modem prices come down considerably from the current $500+ level.

Check out this post for a list alternatives with better speeds.
