Changing TTL on MF279, MR1100 or MF288

Post by PRtronics »

Hello,

I have a few different routers that I want to use with phone plans or tablet plans.

Currently the only way to use LTE routers (like the ones on the subject) are with an external router that's connected through LAN and changes the TTL.

That way the internet goes through smoothly and there's no hotspot related throttling.

Is there a way to have that TTL value changed on the main LTE router itself?

I'm tired of using external routers when I travel instead of just bringing that one LTE router.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm also looking to install custom firmware on the routers, mainly on the MF288 since it's the best model of the three. If not, on the MF279.

Of course I will pay for the job.

If those MF/MR routers are OpenWRT, then you could probably change the TTL, but if they are closed systems (which most likely are) then the only solution is to patch it to a router with TTL capability. If you don't want to lug around a big router for this purpose, then check out GLI's MT300N, a tiny box with OpenWRT firmware. You could patch your MF/MR router to this box two ways, either through a short usb cable or through WiFi. Here's more info on how to do it:

Thank you for your reply.

As far as I know, they're closed firmwares, meaning nobody has access. I do have some type of log that someone "cracked" (don't know if it's the correct term) for the MF279. But since I don't have any experience with this, I can only rely on what I read online with my basic knowledge.

As for patching, I rather stay with the RT-AC68U since it's the same thing but with a higher capability.

Don't hold your breath on waiting for any "cracks/patches" for closed OS routers like the MF/MR series. You're better off with a nice OpenWRT router you can pick up at thewirelesshaven.com along with full support from an active community, or your existing RT-AC68U.
If you absolutely insist on using those MF/MR hotspots, then maybe consider using the GLI MT300N or similar box as a TTL patch. You can attach the tiny MT300N with Velcro on top of your hotspot to make it into a one piece unit. Cheesy but functional. ;)
