WE826 and MC7455 won't connect to eachother

Post by dustinbleh »

Hello,

new here but some assistance would be much appreciated. Running out of hair trying to get this up and running.

Just bought a new We826-T2 from The Wireless Haven, as well as some upgraded antennas and a used MC7455 from eBay in new condition. IMEI is clean. Using Verizon prepaid unlimited plan with a Novatel T1114 previously and wanted an upgrade and some more functionality. Received the modem and LTE card today and assembled everything following the tutorial. When it didn't immediately work I started reading the forums and trying many fixes from here but none have worked, including hard rebooting the device, factory resetting the device, reflashing the firmware, removing the SIM card and cleaning it, removing the LTE card and reinstalling it.

Some of the problem seems to be that I cannot run AT commands. The card will occasionally show as connected with an unknown IMEI and unknown SIM ICCID, but then it immediately disconnects. It has never once connected to the internet since I assembled it.

This is what it says under device information:

And under AT Command Execution it says this, over and over again:

Thu Oct 10 22:55:25 2019 : /dev/ttyUSB1 Can't open device /dev/ttyUSB1.

Which I'm assuming is the LTE card. Sorry for my naivety but I am extremely new to this hardware and UI so I don't know what other information might be helpful.

I have sanded the corners on my sim cards to make sure that wasn't the issue, and have tried my unlimited hotspot sim, as well as my unlimited phone sim with zero success.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading!

The good part is your MC7455 modem is being detected.

But, it is having issues communicating with the MC7455. It is possible the modem is in the wrong composition to access the Modem WAN ports which is why you are not able to enter AT Commands.

Do you have a USB to Mini PCI-E adapter you can use behind a Windows machine?

Once I receive that, what are the next steps?

I read the page about firmware on the mc7455. When I receive the USB adapter I’ll just try to flash the stock generic firmware.

So I received the USB adapter today.

When I plug it into the computer, it constantly connects and disconnects over and over again.

When I send the ATI command using the Huawei tool, nothing is returned.

When I try to update the firmware, it says:

Device error code: 0x0 - Unknown device error code.

and does nothing further.

Does this mean I have a bad card?

Did you first install the Sierra Wireless software drivers for Windows?

Yes, I installed the USB drivers and followed all of the steps show in the tutorial on this page:

https://thewirelesshaven.com/lte-fix-it-firmware- ... nd-em7455/

After following the steps, the card is shown in the Huawei Terminal window, but it will not connect and does not respond to the ATI command.

I am assuming it is a bad card. I requested a refund from the eBay seller and I ordered a new card from Amazon (the EM7455-with the proper adapter and pigtails). I ordered the EM7455 because it was about 1/4 the cost of the MC7455.

Guess we'll see how that goes.

What COM ports are showing up in the Huawei Terminal?

I believe it was COM3 anyway but it would still not respond to the AT commands.

I ordered the EM7455 from Amazon, but they shipped me a EM7345 instead. As far as I can tell that modem is not compatible, so I had them give me a refund and ordered yet another EM7455. It will be here Monday. It’s kind of amazing how much trouble setting this up has been, all because I wanted to save a few bucks on the modem card and a little time on the shipping. If I ever upgrade this setup then I will just order everything from The Wireless Haven and be done with it.

Hopefully Monday I will actually have the EM7455 installed and actually be able to try out this setup for the first time.

Yeah, we are all guilty of spending more to save less.

If you only have a single COM Port, I would suggest trying to unzip a firmware per the logic in THIS tutorial and flash it.

This may restore all three COM ports to include the Modem WAN port which is required to enter AT Commands.

If it is a vendor branded modem (like a dell, lenovo, etc.) and not an OEM, you will need to modify the pid/vid to work with goldenorb.

Buying a modem from an unknown source is much like guessing the prize before opening a box of crackerjacks.

Ok so I installed the EM7455 that I received today and it appears to be working well. I am hooked up through ethernet and it's working great-much faster than my old verizon branded hotspot.

But-when I connect to WiFi it does not have an internet connection. I went through the tutorial again to make sure I configured everything correctly. What am I missing?

Also, one other question-I am using my Verizon sim card with unlimited data but it is still throttling my fast.com speed test down to around 3.5Mbps, whereas I am getting around 50Mbps down with speedtest.net. I have set the TTL to 65, is there something else I can do to make it so Verizon doesn't know I'm watching netflix or streaming content?

Congrats.

The wifi on the WE826 is known to be finicky and some of the goldenorb builds seem to work better than others. I am testing one of the new goldenorb builds on the WE826 which works better than any other build I have tried. It can be downloaded from here: https://www.ofmodemsandmen.com/upload/w ... -10-20.zip

You will need to uncheck the box to save settings when you upgraded. Once the router is upgraded, I flash it a second time to overwrite any files that was left behind, again unchecking the box to save settings. After the second upgrade, I find the stock settings in the wifi to work the best.

I also have a ubiquity access point connected to the WE826 which is mounted in my attic to use in the other end of my house and outside. I think most that use the WE826 for home internet prefers to use it as a modem and connect it to another good wifi router or access point for wifi.

I remember reading here on the forum that ttl of 117 works better for verizon. You might search the forum for 'verizon ttl 117' and see what shows up. I use AT&T so I cannot test it.

I flashed that build and WiFi is working very well now-thanks for that tip.
I am unable to set a TTL of 117-when I go to Network-Firewall-Custom TTL Settings- it shows a drop down menu with only a few values in it to choose from, ranging from 63 to 67. I have tested each of these but see no difference in my fast.com speedtest performance.

One other issue that has popped up today-I am seeing massing PING times, which is a bummer because it makes playing any games online impossible-whereas just yesterday it was performing great. Yesterday my pings were in the low 30's, and today it has shot up to between 115-250. I am not sure what is causing this but it is frustrating.
