Upgrade firmware on MR6400 without losing customizations?

Post by zirconx »

I have a MR6400 I've modified which worked great for a few months, but has started becoming buggy. Maybe it was all the time and I just didn't notice it. I thought perhaps it was a bad battery, and low-power issues were causing the buggyness, but I bought a new battery and the problems persist. Like the wifi stops working, and sometimes the screen goes black while the wifi is still working, but it stops passing traffic. Sometimes I can still ping internet hosts, but I can't browse to them. If I use only USB tethering then everything seems to work fine. I thought maybe it was overheating, but the unit does not feel very hot, and I usually only have 1 device connected to it, just doing web browsing.

I'm on firmware NTGX65_10.01.41.02. I'm wondering if there is another firmware I can upgrade to that will be more stable? I've read through this forum quite a bit but am still unsure. Seems it might be best to try the MR6550 firmware? If I do that will I loose my customizations?

Thanks.

why don't you dmesg it and try to find out what is going on before you go and do something you may regret like try to load it cross platform?
I can't tell you how many devices I have recovered for people that did just that and ended up with a paperweight, You may get along just fine doing it but you may not, is it worth it?
Anyway if you want my advice try to see what it is doing first so you can then know what it needs to be 100% again, look at everything from what you did when you modified it and the tools used to what it is hooked to when it is misbehaving, if your real ports are enabled on it then somewhere in this forum I posted a dmesg tool for public to use it runs off the android port so if your real ports are not enabled don't bother with it because it will not run, you can run it from your device also using adbd and point it to the tmp directory to spit out the dmesg log then you go and grab it from there before you reboot the device.
BTW 10.01.41 is a good platform, once you load 12.xx you will be locked out of a lot of what you need to modify it and have to do some patching before you can do those mods again.
Good luck.

Thats the reason why i gave up to rearch wo to read the firmware from my 6450EUS and write it to the 6500.

@Rich Hathaway Can I send you my five 6500 to modify them fit the 6450EUS firmware?

Thanks
