Quectel RM502Q Band Locking Issue

Post by tendies »

I recently purchased a 4x4 mimo outdoor antenna with a PEXP1GO Router and a Quectel RM502Q Modem.

Once I got everything assembled and turned on I was on the N71 and B66 bands. I had speeds of approximately 180mbps down and 40 up. I tried band Locking N71 and when I did I dropped to 30 mbps down and 30 up. I then decided to check all the boxes as it was originally for band locking and the modem would connect to the provider but would provide no internet. I am now currently band locked on N71 and B66 and it is only connecting to the N71, with speeds around 30down and 30 up.

How do I get "unstuck" from N71?

Thanks

Honestly n71 can be weird and even junk. I lock off n71 and b71 myself.

That said. Let's clarify. Did you lock TO n71 only? Did you only use the GUI for band locking? I really prefer not to, though it does make things a little more user friendly.

Has anything changed since posting this?

Lets see what is going on in the background.... Run these three commands and output as a text copy in a reply:

AT+QNWPREFCFG="nsa_nr5g_band"

AT+QNWPREFCFG="nr5g_band"

AT+QNWPREFCFG="lte_band"

also:

AT+QNWPREFCFG="mode_pref"

we'll go from there.

I did only lock N71, Now I currently have N71 and B66 locked, I did do this thru the GUI.

The outputs for the commands are as follows:

AT+QNWPREFCFG="nsa_nr5g_band"
+QNWPREFCFG: "nsa_nr5g_band",71

AT+QNWPREFCFG="nr5g_band"
+QNWPREFCFG: "nr5g_band",1:2:3:5:7:8:12:20:25:28:38:40:41:48:66:71:77:78:79

AT+QNWPREFCFG="lte_band"
+QNWPREFCFG: "lte_band",66

AT+QNWPREFCFG="mode_pref"
+QNWPREFCFG: "mode_pref",AUTO

I would set all bands back to unlocked then power cycle the router. See what happens. If it still acts goofy, I would turn off n71, and maybe b71. See how it works.

Is it also setting up on stand alone n71? Where the UI shows n71 only? If so, you may want to lock out the SA n71 with:

Code: Select all

AT+QNWPREFCFG: "nr5g_band",1:2:3:5:7:8:12:20:25:28:38:40:41:48:66:77:78:79
The modems internal algorithms effectively work with signal and band metrics it reads and starts to develop how it wants to connect. We're basically trying to guide the modem as best we can with band locks and preference settings. It can be a pain, but the capability is in there.

Okay, So I tried turning all the bands back to unlock. No success even after a power cycle.

I tried to turn off n71 and b71 and did a power cycle still getting the same thing.

If I remove the n71 from the SA set. It now resorts back to NSA and all seems to be operating as should. It is not locking on N71 in SA mode at least.

I am getting 130 mbps down and about 30 mbps up right now but we are in the middle of severe rains and tornado watches.

My experience with setting and un-setting the band locking through the GUI is losing control over the NR5G list. The GUI will allow you to Band Lock both the NSA-5GNR and 5GNR Bands but will only allow you to unlock the NSA-5GNR list.

In order to unlock the 5GNR bands, you will need to run the AT command Didneywhorl has listed above. I had to do this on my RM502.
