NEXQ6GO vs NEXR5GO - power usage for RV (battery)

Post by tazzytazzy2 »

I'll be using this setup in our travel trailer where we primarily camp using battery power. We do have solar, but we don't always camp where solar produces much (redwoods, sierra mountains, etc). So, I'm trying to be power frugal where I can. We do have lithium batteries to help get us through long trips.

I'm about to pull the trigger on either the NEXQ6GO or the NEXR5GO. Does anyone know the power usage for each of these without the modem? I cannot find the datasheets for these devices. The NEXR5GO comes with a 12v@4amp power supply, while the smaller one comes with 2amp. WIthout actual data, it appears the NEXR5GO does use a bit more to power the 5g wifi radios.

The price difference is not much, but I'm concerned about the power usage. I'll be pairing these with the Quectel EM12-G as I've read I'll have better luck with this modem on Verizon postpaid, versus the sierra radios.

Thanks for any feedback.

Notes:
Compared current consumption of the EM12 VS EM06, it seems they use about the same power - around 500 mA @ 3.3v (VCC). Perhaps I'm reading the charts wrong down in the "current consumption" charts.
