I'm having trouble getting the Sierra MC7700 running....

Post by bear_shinn »

I picked up a Sierra Wireless MC7700 Modem for a WE826-T Router running GoldenOrb Firmware and the Debug Log says "/dev/ttyUSB1 Can't open device /dev/ttyUSB1." repeatedly and nothing else. This is my first GoldenOrb build so I'm a bit new to all this. If anyone knows what's up with this modem I'd love to get this thing up and running.... 🤔

Did you ever get this solved? I am considering the exact same setup as well.

I believe it was decided that the issue is related from the modem not being in MBIM mode.

I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AS BEAR_SHINN, AND I ALSO HAVE THE SAME SET-UP. MY SCREEN SHOWS THE SAME. EVERY TIME YOU PUT AN AT COMMAND IN, IT ALWAYS SAYS THAT IT CAN'T OPEN DEVICE, REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU PUT IN THE COMMAND LINE. I AM RUNNING A WE-3926 WITH THE LATEST GOLDENORB. I WENT BACK THROUGH THE TROUBLESHOOTING TWICE, BUT STILL NO EXTERNAL IP ADDRESS. I AM TRYING TO CONNECT TO AT&T. WHEN YOU FIRST POWER ON THE ROUTER IT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE IT PICKS UP THE MODEM, BUT AFTER IT IS ON FOR ABOUT TEN MINUTES, THE USB LIGHT COMES ON, AND IT RECOGNIZES THE MODEM, THE SIERRA MC7700. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

It always help to tell which version of GoldenOrb you are using. Some of the versions will not recognize the MC7700 without adding the PID/VID.

Due to the issues people are experiencing issues when using the MC7700, I configured a WE826 router this evening and will post the steps required to get it up and running.

The GoldenOrb version I used is the we826-GO2018-08-07

NOTE: The login password for that build is admin

I would suggest you read and familiarize yourself with THIS topic. It may sound a bit complicated, but it really is not. I will post a tutorial tomorrow.

I went ahead and listed the steps at the bottom of the tutorial referenced above until a full tutorial can be prepared.

WHEN I FIRST RECEIVED MY MC7700, AND WE-3926, I FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO INSTALL THE MODEM, AND PUT THE COVER BACK ON. THEN I USED THIS VERSION GoldenOrb 2017-12-15 Firmware TO INSTALL ON MY NEW WE-3926. SO I NEED TO REVERT BACK TO THE VERSION WE826-GO2018-08-07 BY USING THE BOOTLOADER MODE, AND THEN FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE TOPIC YOU REFERENCED, OR CAN I JUST FLASH THE VERSION OF GOLDENORB THAT WAS USED TO WORK?

I would use the newer firmware for the WE826-T since it is a newer kernel that supports QMI. The WE826-T and the WE3926 use the identical PCB.

You can install the new image from within GoldenOrb without having to access the boot-loader menu.

Be SURE and UNCHECK the Save Settings box.

A new build for the WE826T is available HERE.

I have not tested it personally, but it has the VID:PID's included for the MC7700 and a few more.

It also includes a few other fixes related to WiFi and connection issues.

Finally got go 2018-08-17 loaded through boot loader on my we826. Just wondering if I can now install my Sierra mc7700 modem directly in router or do I need to load the Sierra att firmware using sub adapter first. Thanks for any help..

The MC7700 already has AT&T firmware on modem.

It would not hurt to update the modem firmware to the latest edition if you have a USB to Mini PCI-e adapter handy.

On their web site it shows ( swi9200x 03.05.29.03 DPI) (swi9200x 03.05.29.03 QMI) question is does it matter which of these two versions I use?

HAS ANYONE BEEN ABLE TO GET THEIR WE826 ROUTER UP AND RUNNING WITH THE SIERRA MC7700. I HAVE UPDATED THE ROUTER TO THE LATEST GOLDENORB, TOOK THE MC7700 OUT AND UPDATED THE MODEM TO THE swi9200x 03.05.29.03 QMI FIRMWARE, BUT STILL CAN'T GET THE MODEM TO CONNECT. AT LEAST AFTER UPDATING THE MODEM FIRMWARE, THE ROUTER IS RECOGNIZING THE MODEM, BUT WON'T CONNECT TO THE NETWORK. BEFORE I TOOK THE MODEM OUT AND UPDATED THE FIRMWARE, THE ROUTER WASN'T EVEN COMMUNICATING WITH THE MODEM, AND THERE IS NO ISSUE WITH THE SIM CARD EITHER. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS, OR CAN TELL ME HOW THEY WAS ABLE TO GET CONNECTED? OR IS THIS A LOST CAUSE.

@magregory

Did you ever get this to work? I'm dealing with the same issue.
