Device End-Of-Life(EOL) ?

Post by R1250GSA »

Is having a vintage phone cool?
People seem to love the vintage iPad unlimited plans, lol !

What is the life expectancy of a phone?
Besides the battery failing prematurely and not being easy to swap out…
The bar is set at (5) years for Apple and (3) years for Samsung (and not every model).
All other Android devices appear to set the bar is at 2 years and some don’t abide by that.

Besides security updates, band support has rolled in over time, dating the phones;
B66, B14, B71, B46, B48, 5G nr, 5G mmWave.

So my question is…
What is the future of modem modules?
I have not found any EOL list for Quectel or Sierra online.
I assume there are very few firmware updates, especially once the initial kinks are ironed out.
Besides the available LTE bandwidth shrinking over time, are there any new security features or other dynamics that will force some modems into retirement?
