Issue connecting to Sprint Towers, Not registering

Post by mattvds »

Hey everyone,

I've been trying all day to connect my Caylx sim to a different sprint tower. I'm using a Cradlepoint CRA850, with an EM7565 modem. Setup works on a different tower, but that tower lost B41 and is now super slow.

I cannot get the modem to properly register against the APN:r.ispsn, it just continues to say that the EMM state is "Deregistered Attach Needed".

After hours of mucking around I was able to get it to register to the tower using the APN: "otasn", and receive an IP address, but no data flows through the connection. Once I switch it back to r.ispsn and reset the modem, it switched back to dregistered.

When it's not registered, I've tried kicking the registration with AT+CGATT=1 but every time I do that it seems to cause the modem to reboot.

AT+COPS? shows 0
AT+cops?= shows "cops: (1,"Sprint","Sprint","310120",7),(1,"310 830","310 830","310830",7),(3,"Sprint","Sprint","311490",7),(1,"Sprint",
"Sprint","312530",7),(1,"311 882","311 882","311882",7),,(0,1,2,3,4),(0,1,2)"

attempting to manually set the AT+cops to 1,2"Sprint",7 gives an error

at+creg? shows "+CREG: 1,2"

Anybody have any ideas?

I suspect your Cradlepoint is using the Sprint firmware of the modem. Therefore you are having issues as the IMEI on the EM7565 is not provisioned for you to just swap from Calyx's hotspot. You must use the generic version of the firmware to get it to registered but the problem is your router won't let you do that even when you manually select generic. That's what I'm guessing it is doing.

Interesting theory. I have a spare WG device with mc7455 around, I'll try with that. Oddly it was working for months on the other tower...

You could just check with

Code: Select all

AT!ENTERCND="A710"
AT!IMPREF?
or check the firmware page on CBA850.

Having the same issue with the WG3526 w/ generic mc7455:

!IMPREF:
preferred fw version: 02.24.05.06
preferred carrier name: GENERIC
preferred config name: GENERIC_002.026_000
current fw version: 02.24.05.06
current carrier name: GENERIC
current config name: GENERIC_002.026_000

Can still connect to the old tower no problems, but trying any other tower it fails to register.

What about x.ispsn and n.ispsn? Maybe T-Mobile is working on the tower due to merger and it's a temporary issue only. Perhaps this warrants a call to find out.
