The problem is the Chinese manufacturers are choosing chips not supported by openWRT. If there is no official image for openWRT, Rooter generally wont spend time on making an image. Many of these IPQ chips have come out over the last few years, the Chinese manufacturers modify their 2015 toolchains ...

Does your modem get a public range of IPs to then use as routable IPs on your network, or are you just looking to avoid dbl NAT'ing your network?
Usually you just get one IP assigned to your modem, versus an entire x.x.x.x/24 or so.

Male sure to disable the auto pdp contexts. AT+QMBNCFG="AutoSel",0
Also change to MBIM protocol: AT+QCFG="USBNET",2
Reset the modem after changing: AT+CFUN=1,1
Make sure the router firewall has custom TTL & HL rules. Article on this site on how to do this.

Yeah, the internal mini-pcie is USB2, whereas the USB port on the outside is USB3 (10x the max possible speed 480Mbps vs 4800Mbs)
Internal space is also too tight to fit it in there, properly.

Rooter/openWRT doesn't really have aggressive reconnection scripts. You may want to try putting the modem in ECM mode, I think it may handle it better.. BUT if you "lose" comms with it, you'll have to put it back in QMI or MBIM via command line. Sometimes the Quectel modems act odd in ECM.

Just making sure, but are you setting the band mask after you define it?
The command you posted above only defines the band mask, you still have to set it with AT!BAND=02
This is assuming it took your defined mask, which you can check with AT!BAND?

Re: ZBT WG1608 and rooter project/GoldenOrb_2021-02-09 and 5ghz wifi network
To put it in my own words:
You want to use your WG1608 as an internet source and feed it to another system that can properly handle all wifi devices and provide good coverage?
I have been really liking Vilo: https://store.viloliving.com/

2x2 MIMO 5G "BLASTER" antenna From WiFiX Antennas just released
Budget 2x2 MIMO that I think is as good or better than most of the other similar 2x2 MIMO flat panels. I'll soon be testing two of them together for 4x4 MIMO setups.

Quectel modems all use the same command to see the imei. Look for information on AT+EGMR

Re: Tmobile is cracking down on data usage ?
Supposedly the latest 502 firmware had some tmo fixes in it, something about UDP though. I've seen the ICMP and ICMPv6 issues before. I wish they would standardize and stop jacking with "special carrier firmware" type jobbers.

Re: Tmobile is cracking down on data usage ?
If they updated anything on your tower, you might actually just have a tower issue. I'd called t-force and let them know your phone is dropping out off the tower constantly.

I'm not a routing table expert, or even close.
openWRT Wireguard port forwarding is what I would search the interwebz for. Most liekly it's just port forwarding through firewall zones.

Re: TAKTIKAL 9700
That should help yes, but you may experience slower speeds as running a VPN on the 400MHz single core 826 router base isn't real optimal. Wireguard is lightweight, but I'm just giving you a heads up that it might be noticeable.
Make certain you get a good geographically close VPS.

Re: 4x4 mimo mixed setup signal
It could also be that the antenna is getting equal frequency reception from multiple towers, causing a form of RF noise called 'cross-talk'. Basically if you have more that one source broadcasting the same general frequency ranges, the receiver can see them all but on ly use the one it's linked to. ...

Re: TAKTIKAL 9700
It might be that the thermo is setup to be pinged externally and not as a "man on the inside", and since cellular wireless uses CGNAt, there is no public facing IP. Maybe? I'm guessing that is why one brand would work for someone and the other wouldn't?
Just spitballing.

Re: Upgrade for a MF279?
The M1 can be the lowest cost for the most performance if you have a straight drop in hotspot SIM card, but I wouldn't buy any used ones. Most are Blacklisted by ATT; or at the least get a guarantee on it and an foolproof way to get a refund if needed. Otherwise I would go with a modifiable openWRT ...

There is a firewall log i believe, and rooter is openWRT based so you can pretty much install any openWRT package on it. I've never done traffic analysis myself.
