That would be a router. You can setup a gigabit router with the USB adapter and turn off its wifi radios. I do that A LOT. I place them outdoors inside 4x4 MIMO antennas and power via POE, like this one ... c2%b1-45-rj45-connector/

T-Mobile 71/n71 600MHz band may help the rural setup.
(not sure if 600 is exclusively NR 5G or if 4G is flowing on it as well)

What does the SIM activation process look like? Will I need a phone to activate prior to putting it in the Mofi?

That setup doesnt seem bad, if they are installing it. The router price seems decent but your paying for a modem you wont be using in it. The Telit LM960A18 is generally about $280 by itself, shipped.
Mikrotik makes good equipment, but the firmware takes a PHD to understand. Once you figure it out, I hear ...

What's the dbi on those lpdas? Something like 9-11? I'd get a pair of 15dbi flat panel mimos instead.. Half the price, more gain, only 2 antennas to mount. A simple J-pole will suffice to mount them both.

Modem seems good enough. The router, I haven't heard much about.. Not sure if it'll accept ...

I would like to build a router/modem setup that can be PoE powered to mount outside near antenna to minimize cable run. Suggestions or recommendations for hardware? No, not any router. But many do support usb tethering out of the box, Peplink is good at supporting it. Goldenorb firmware can support usb tethering depending on the build of firmware per the device.

Short answer, its possible, theres just too many variables to universally say yes.

If you have these antenna setting outside waiting on router to be hooked up make sure to tape those ends so no moisture gets in them.

Without anything else to try I am thinking about adding better antenna's than provided with the router. Any recommendations on which ones to try? The Cisco antennas that are listed as an upgrade only have 2db gain. Is that correct? Is there a better set up to try?
