MR6500 openlock error

Sorry for being a newb - I'm trying to use the AT!OPENLOCK command on my MR6500, but I keep getting "error" in response. AT!OPENMEP works fine. I'm on Firmware NTGX65_10.0.31.01. Example - Challenge BFA9DF196842AA04, Response E6419E4284E3CEA1. Am I doing something wrong?

Regarding disabling OTA updates, found this thread: https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=3435. Is that the best way to accomplish?
