Can confirm this issue on Verizon with the same configuration. Send sms just fails with a timeout.

I would recommend the solder points for the power input barrel plug, this is at 12V at between 3-4A. As long as the fan isn't drawing more than ~150 milliamps, it should not affect the router. I have the same setup and I'm not experiencing any of these problems you're describing. The only suggestion I can recommend is make sure you are using the 4A adapter that was included separately, not the 3A adapter included with the router.
