ok, found the issue. I kept trying to connect via the DM port, not realizing there was another item in device manager for the WWAN (listed under "Modem" and not "Ports"). Duh. After connecting to com6 (wwan) instead of com1 (DM port), it worked. But I had to use ATE1 to get it to...

nothing, in fact that is my problem. when i use putty to connect to the com port, i get nothing
