Re: RM502Q-AE based cell scanner

Good advice, all. A couple of take aways: I'll try a modem reset, but that takes about a minute for things to come back online. This last run was 2 minutes for every 2 degrees or about 6 hours for a full survey. To compensate for a longer sampling time I could run the survey over several nights. Or ...

Re: RM502Q-AE based cell scanner

A basic scanner run was completed. I mostly capture LTE and NSA RSRQ, RSRP, and SINR metrics from the serving cell command. The CA commands don't include NSA metrics (and require loading the connection) so I didn't try visualizing CA. Command to control the Green Heron RT-21 controller: rotator.py C...

RM502Q-AE based cell scanner

I've recently completed a cellular data rig with an RM502Q-AE as the centerpiece mounted in an AD4M 1DP738X8 RJ antenna and connected to a Raspberry Pi 4. More details on the modem and tower construction can be found here: https://twitter.com/peterastephens/status/1424591177458794496 The antenna is ...

Noticed this. Also docs have omissions and inaccuracies. But they're still helpful.

Re: Tower Based LTE Project

Update: Got the big hole dug for the tower footing. Ended up being a little deeper than needed so will need to backfill and compact a bit. Next steps: Design a proper grounding system to safely dissipate the inevitable lightning strike. Seems to be a lot of guesswork without employing significant en...

I agree with Didneywhorl here.

You need to step down to 5V DC on the PoE splitter end. Try one of these:

Re: Tower Based LTE Project

I have a question about your setup. How do you plan to connect the 4 antennas to the Mofi Modem? I actually only plan on using 2x2 MiMo. So only two antennas will be necessary for my build. For a 4x4 MiMo setup I would need to make several upgrades: Modem. Acquire a modem with 4x4 MiMo. The Sierra ...

Re: Tower Based LTE Project

What is your final goal? What potential speeds are you wanting to get out of this? My original reply seems to have been deleted. Maybe forums were restored from backups? Original gist: Reliability over bandwidth. Low latency over bandwidth. Good bandwidth would be icing on the cake. edit: spelling

Tower Based LTE Project

Inspired by swwifty's epic thread I'm planning to build a tower based LTE setup to improve my internet connectivity. Some history: I've tried fixed wireless in the distant past, but, without line of site to the tower, results were mediocre. More recently I've used DSL. But the quality of the copper ...

Re: 26 dBi ultra wide-band parabolic grid antenna

Hello all, I just found this long thread about the wide band parabolic grid. I work at the design and fabrication shop and lab where it originated and can answer any questions. How can I help? I'm looking for "projected area" wind load specifications for this model, the Bolton Technical H...
