I believe the nighthawk will not perform wifi properly with out the battery in. No wifi with no battery no issue though. Used to use one with no battery hooked to different router with the nighthawk wifi off.

Possibly. You need the highest dBi antenna you can afford. The higher dBi means a tighter beam; basically. You want an antenna to be like a laser beam.
