Re: Help Me Find a Replacement for ATT iPad Plan

kysourmash wrote: Sun Nov 08, 2020 8:15 amI have excellent ATT signal. Terrible Verizon signal.
Tethering from a phone might be an option. If you use EasyTether, data will be counted as phone data, not hotspot. I have a Raspberry Pi running EasyTether and Wireguard. I'm in the process of writing a blog post describing it.

Re: Opinions on cellular boosters?

I'm running the latest Raspberry Pi OS (previously known as Raspbian), "buster" on a Pi 4. I messed around a lot getting it working but I don't recall those problems. I basically plug in the phone and route -n shows tun-easytether at 192.168.117.0. I don't need to run easytether-usb. I thi...

Opinions on cellular boosters?

I know that "cell boosters" are not a popular topic here but I wonder how well, or not, they really work. Firstly, here's the new cellular connection for my RV that I put together last week. rpi 10.18.01 PM.jpg That's a Raspberry Pi 4 running Wireguard and EasyTether to an Android phone. I...

Re: LTE Internet Providers listing

I have no idea how these resellers offer these high volume plans and I have a very strong feeling all of them are going to go away sooner than later or jump ship to TMobile. It's a bit of a mystery. I have a plan for my RV from yet another reseller, https://www.ezmobiledata.com. I ended up with the...

Re: New here, need hotspot, or truly unlimited data help

I don't mean to nitpick but is NoLimitData really a MVNO? My understanding is that the likes of Mint, PagePlus and the carrier owned retailers like Visible and Cricket are MVNOs with agreements with the carriers and I think regulated by the FCC. The resellers seem to be simply reselling plans which ...

what was your original bandwidth vs with the VPN on? I just tried speedtest.net several times with and without the VPN and it's hard to notice any difference. Re: USB Tethering: How can I prevent the host from charging the phone/tablet?

I think I have a workable solution for this. It's probably device dependent but, at least on my Moto G Power phone, there is a current level where the battery stops charging but the data still works. charge-limiter.png I will of course put some tape around it. I got a one of these https://www.amazon...

Re: NEXR5GO, EM7565, Visible Wireless

Have you activated it with the app on a phone?
Edit: Sorry if that's a silly question. I guess if the modem sees the phone number you've probably activated it.

Correct APN is VSBLINTERNET.

As far as I know, most of the resellers are not MVNOs. I think real MVNOs like Cricket, Mint, Page Plus etc are registered with and regulated by the FCC. Most of the resellers are just small businesses somehow reselling plans.

Re: AT&T Unlimited for Tablet Plan Question

I received my Android tablet and I can confirm that it works quite nicely with my EasyTether / WireGuard setup in a Raspberry Pi. It's not as fast as native tethering was on the iPad but I'm getting between 20 and 30 Mbps most of the time so still not too bad as a $20 per month "unlimited"...

You're right, generally speaking from past experience. Latest rumors are that the ipad plans are starting to track and throttle hotspot usage. Re: Any experience with No Limit Data?

From the plans page
900 GB is considered the average use for Pink Plan. Usage above 900GB is considered data abuse and your account will be under review.
And from the terms and conditions
The Pink plans have a 900Gb limit
They don't seem to understand what "average" means.

Re: Wireguard on ROOter?

I will have to test the WireGuard built into the latest GoldenOrb, however that still doesn't solve the lack of your WiFi 5G. And the GL-AR750S will probably give you a little better performance too. Re: AT&T Unlimited for Tablet Plan Question

If you're using an Android phone or tablet, there's no need to tie up a computer for EasyTether (consequently lose some speed and increase the latency), instead you could tether it directly to a mobile router via USB or WiFi. Here's how to do it: https://wirelessjoint.com/viewtopic.php?p=10303#p103...

It was just DNS. When I run WireGuard it doesn't seem to be able to use the default DNS. I set custom DNS to 1.1.1.1 in the LAN interface and WireGuard is working great. This is very cool.

Re: Visible TTL mangling - a poor noob down on his luck

chumbie wrote: Fri Sep 17, 2021 10:23 amIf I use a vpn, does that mean I don't have to disguise the outgoing TTL?
No. It just makes it much more difficult for the carrier to figure out anything from your data.

I'm sure they can tell that you are using a VPN which itself might be a useful piece of information for them.

It’s my understanding the prepaid plans or for people with poor credit ratings. Or for people that do not trust the carriers with there credit card due to they sometimes hit with a high bill. The other reason for going prepaid is if you don't need continuous month after month use. I just setup a WG...

Re: How to Setup Wireguard on WE826?

I don't know if NordVPN does this but by far the easiest way to setup WireGuard is when the VPN provider supplies a config file. That's how I use Windscribe. One of the download options is a config generator which provides a file which you upload to the router. There was no real config to do. The on...

I think I have a reasonable solution to this: Here's my script. I'm no expert at (b)ash so I'm sure this is not perfect but it seems to work. Hard to figure what the WiFi as Wan is necessary for. Most campgrounds provide Wi-Fi.
